Fireworks galore at Esplanade. I think this is the first time we ever had such a large-scale celebration going on for Singaporeans on a New Year's Day. Finally, a global city in the making.NYE Dinner was out at Pit Stop Cafe at 14-B Circular Rd, which is opened by a friend of one of the 5 lead characters for tonight, who hail from the various planets, in our speak. Food was alright. The cafe is made in the setting of a settler's cafe, with 2 hours of board games coming with every set order. Or you could grab another 5 pals for $45 a table and 2 hours of gaming. Adventure seeking, we picked The Lord Of The Rings, and spent the next 2 hours trying to understand how to play the game 'cos even the staff had not touched the box. It was a non-stop laughter session for hours as we set up the "ang gong", shields, tokens, cards and board, then crashed our way through the complicated rules of the game.
Leaving at 10.30pm, we made our way through mobbed hell to the Esplanade Library where we had an exclusive spectacle of the show. Nice one, before trying to make sense of it all on our "escape route" when we took a glance of Raffles Avenue being taken over by streams of people eager to catch the last train at City Hall MRT.
Next stop is Newton, where the 6th lead character, the beautiful Goddess of Love, arrived from the planet of Venus. Munch munch. It's 2am, but the fun is not over yet.
After that is play time at West Coast Park. Man, it's crowded as we unpacked our goodies and made havoc, and then making to the summit of the famous pyramid web at the playground there. Then we had UNO in the darkness, and we couldn't stop laughing cos we were always trying to differentiate between blue and green in dim light, then throwing '+2' and '+4' cards at each other. The game continued at McDonald's as an early shower arrived at 4am.
The weary souls then made their way to Changi Village on a long ride down ECP and Changi Coast Rd -we even saw the first touch-down of the day - but we know that we had a 30-70 chance of seeing the sunrise since it would be overcast. And since we were an hour early for breakfast at the food centre, we found ourselves refuge at Changi Village Hotel.
After breakfast, we grabbed some sleep on a long ride home to Bishan for transfers. I had to stay up for a few more hours just to see if any of the CNG buses had hit the road. No signs of them. Sigh. After all that, it's amazing I have stayed up for 30 hours without any proper sleep, staying through painfully long rides to the west and back.
If I had a choice, I don't want to take buses again, man.
Meanwhile, I have decided to use my old earphones 'cos, ironically, they are way better at producing bass and treble. Nice for the dance tracks, and anything else.
Some pictures.
